Want to hear something funny?  Last week, I was having a conversation with a friend (that’s not the funny part).  And she said, I’m a person who needs to know my purpose, who needs to know where I’m going, who needs to know what’s happening next.

And I said, you don’t need to know, you just want to know.  What you need to know you already know.  And that is that you have a purpose and God is in control.

I said that.  (that’s the funny part)

The next day, another friend said to me, you don’t need to figure anything out.

Since then, I’ve taken note of how many times I’ve started a sentence, I need to figure out . . . or I’m trying to figure out . . .  It’s at least a half dozen in less than 3 days.

So, I’ve been thinking: It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1

And one of the things God is telling me is that I am forever released from trying to figure anything out – trying to figure everything out.

On Sunday we sang:
 . . . my heart screams I am free

I am free to run
I am free to dance
I am free to live for you.
I am free.

I feel so far from free, I don’t even know if I would recognize it if I saw it.  But Christ’s yoke is easy and His burden is light.  So if I feel shackled, bound and exhausted by a heavy burden it is either of my own making, or I am trying to carry it in my own strength.

Not by might nor by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord almighty. Zechariah 4:6b

Who despises the day of small things? Zechariah 4:10a

Only let us live up to what we have already attained. Philippians 3:16
